I would enjoy an outdoor activity. I am not that familiar with the Albany area so, would enjoy seeing and learning more about the fun things there are to do. If you play golf, meeting at a local course and playing a round would be fun also.

While not quite as romantic as other ideas, it has been my experience that one can discover a considerable amount about another's personality during a round of golf! However, for those who don't golf, any of the following also work, your choice, lunch, brunch, coffee or other drinks, dinner, picnic, walks, the zoo, the botanic gardens, museums, art galleries, anywhere quiet where two people can spend time together getting acquainted!

Just somewhere and something casual. NO "movie and dinner date". I do not want o be closed in on a first date. I like to be in a public setting where there are things to see and do and discuss what each others like and dislikes are.

I live in a fairly isolated area so I am willing to drive a way to meet the right person. That's why a 'day' date makes sense to begin ... lunch or coffee. A walk down main street or along a pier. When we first meet, I'd rather doing anything that allows conversation than attend a performance, movie, concert, etc. Those things are wonderful, but let's save them for the next step.
